What Lakes Region Customers Should Know Before They Book

The Lakes Region runs on a calendar the rest of New Hampshire does not. Between Memorial Day and Columbus Day the population around Winnipesaukee, Winnisquam and Squam swells with seasonal owners, renters and contractors, and everything that touches a driveway gets harder to schedule. Storage is no different. The customers who have the easiest experience here are the ones who plan around the season rather than against it.

The season sets your schedule

Two windows account for most of the demand we see. Late May and June is the opening-up rush, when seasonal properties come back online and owners need somewhere to put the contents of a camp while floors get refinished or a bathroom gets gutted. Late September through October is the closing-up rush, when the same owners want deck furniture, kayaks, dock hardware and grills out of the weather before the first hard freeze.

If your move or project lands in either window, book two to three weeks out rather than two to three days. That is not a scarcity pitch. It is that a container placed on a lake road in early October is competing with every other pickup and delivery in the same twenty-mile radius, and the flexible slot you want may already be taken.

One local wrinkle worth naming: Motorcycle Week in June reshapes traffic around Weirs Beach, Route 3 and downtown Laconia for the better part of nine days. We can still deliver, but if your property is inside that footprint, scheduling either side of the week will save everyone a headache.

Mud season, dirt roads and posted weight limits

A lot of Lakes Region property sits at the end of a gravel drive or a Class VI road. From roughly mid-March through April, frost coming out of the ground turns those surfaces soft, and many towns post weight limits that a loaded delivery truck cannot legally or safely ignore. If your project timeline is flexible, the shoulder weeks just after the roads firm up in May are the easiest time of year to get a container exactly where you want it.

When you call, tell us what the last two hundred feet of your driveway looks like. Gravel, a steep pitch, a culvert, an overhanging maple, a turnaround that a truck has to back out of. Local dispatch can plan for all of it. What creates problems is finding out on delivery day.

Island and water-access properties

Winnipesaukee has more than 250 islands, and a meaningful number of them have year-round or seasonal homes on them. Moving to or from one is a coordination job, not a delivery job: the container has to meet a barge, the barge slot has to line up with the marina and the contractor, and the whole sequence usually has to happen inside one day.

Short-term rental turnovers

Owners who rent weekly in summer face a problem storage solves neatly: the furnishings and gear you want in the house for your own family are not the ones you want in a rental. A container on the property lets you swap between the two configurations without hauling everything off-site and back. The same applies at the end of the season, when a house that rents through October needs to be emptied of personal items on a fixed date.

Winter: decide where the box sits before the snow flies

If a container is staying on your property through the winter, placement is a fall decision. It needs to be somewhere your plow contractor can work around, off the path where roof snow sheds, and on ground that will not turn to soup during a February thaw. A gravel pad or a couple of sheets of plywood under the corners makes a real difference.
